DEI enhancements from the DEI in Search Advisory Group: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mByBSWNA0MBQiNc2tRDend01ewDGcBtkAtOiF1KlL8k/edit?usp=sharing
Corinna [Kareena] Baksik
22:20
FWIW non-preferred terms shouldn't appear at all in facets, IMO. Should only be used for searching
Dejah Rubel
22:41
Agreed!
Deborah T Tomaras
22:56
Absolutely agree, Corinna.
Corinna [Kareena] Baksik
23:23
Any volunteers to write that up for NERS? I guess it would go into the Primo product
Chiat Naun Chew
23:31
Primo facets: saying the quiet part out loud

Deborah T Tomaras
24:08
I would love a NERS enhancement that only authorized terms from controlled vocabularies should ever appear in the catalog.
allenjones
24:16
ā€œUncontrolledā€ terms are rarely flagged in article metadata from publishers, so when we had these conversations, it has been sent to publishers to fix upstream
Margaret Heller
24:16
If we want any additional breakout rooms to discuss specific NERS ideas we can add one
Jackie Saavedra (WRLC)
24:34
It goes to show that Ex Libris doesn't understand how authority control works

Dejah Rubel
25:18
I liked the suggestion to change the display. I hate having to change LGBTQ to Sexual minorities to make authority control happy.
allenjones
26:35
CDI has no authority control or normalization process that’s editable by customers.
Israel Yanez
26:54
In PBO, your new terms will be searchable. In VE, you'd need a new norm rule for seach, plus have all relevant bib records reindexed by Ex L

27:57
Video is helpful
Ellen Augustiniak
28:09
Yup great example in the video thx!
Melissa De Fino (she/her)
29:53
Why are all of these methods only changing display and not changing the metadata itself?
Deborah T Tomaras
30:20
There are some methods to change or augment the metadata later on.
Dejah Rubel
30:24
Customers don't have access to CDI's black box.
allenjones
30:33
@Melissa - because it’s running when the interface is rendered and not the metadata underneath
Liz Bodian
30:39
We are so lucky to have Drew to make these changes!
Melissa De Fino (she/her)
31:01
Thank you, Deborah
Margaret Heller
31:31
You can report metadata issues to CDI vendors, but you can't control when those are fixed, so these are some approaches to fixing display in the mean time
Joseph N.
33:23
ĀĀĀĀĀBut one can theoretically create a search and facet normalization rule (in addition to the norm rule that replaces terms) that would allow users to click on hyperlinked subject strings with replaced terms and find other resources with those strings. Wouldn't affect the CDI problem, however.
Cheryl Davenport
35:56
When you refer to local record changes, is this IZ or does this include NZ records for consortia with a network zone where the process is to get updates pushed to the NZ record from OCLC?
karina (she/her)
36:31
can we get the link in the chat please? :)
